Deborah’s Story with the Light Adjustable Lens™
Recently, Dr. Manjoney joined Dr. Bruns on The Morning Blend to discuss her experience with cataract surgery at Summit Eye Care. In the segment, Dr. Manjoney shared how her vision issues escalated quickly: “About a year ago, I suddenly seemed to need glasses all the time. If I was driving at night, there was glare around headlights coming at me, and even in the day, the sun seemed too bright for me to see traffic lights. I was starting to get scared that it may be something other than cataracts.”
Dr. Bruns confirmed that cataracts were the cause of her declining vision and performed her surgery using the revolutionary Light Adjustable Lens™ (LAL). This cutting-edge lens is the only intraocular lens that can be adjusted after cataract surgery, allowing patients to “test drive” their vision and fine-tune the lens based on their unique needs. The LAL gives patients the opportunity to achieve their best possible vision, reducing or even eliminating the need for glasses after surgery.
As Dr. Bruns explained, “This is not your grandma’s cataract surgery. The big difference is a lifestyle choice. In traditional cataract surgery, we can improve vision, but you will probably still need glasses. For those wanting independence from glasses, the LAL offers a different option.”
Dr. Manjoney found the entire process smooth and stress-free. “For me, it was such an easy thing. The surgery center is lovely, the people are very friendly, it’s seamless. There is nothing scary about it at all,” she said. After the surgery, Dr. Bruns adjusted her lenses to fine-tune her vision, allowing her to achieve optimal clarity without glasses.
Dr. Manjoney reflected on the life-changing impact of the surgery: “Recovery was great. The worst part was that I would always find myself reaching for my glasses, then remember I don’t need them. I don’t need them at all. I don’t need readers. It was life-changing.”
Summit Eye Care’s advanced approach to cataract surgery, combined with Dr. Bruns’ expertise, gave Dr. Manjoney the freedom from glasses she had been hoping for. As she proudly stated, “We are so fortunate in Milwaukee to have a team with an ophthalmologist and optometrist who can bring such amazing vision to people who are suffering with cataracts.”
